Finish Strong!

Later, knowing that everything had been finished, and so that Scripture would be fulfilled, Jesus said, “I am thirsty.” When he had received the drink, Jesus said, “It is finished.” With that, he bowed his head and gave up his spirit. - John 19:28,30

There is talk in sports of great finishers. Tiger Woods has never lost a major championship when leading going in to the final round. James Harden is a great finisher around the rim. Mariano Rivera was the greatest baseball closer of all time. In very different sports, these three finished what they started. Winning a major championship. Scoring on drives to the basket. Getting three outs in the bottom of the ninth.

They were great finishers. But the greatest finisher of all time was Jesus. His Father gave Him the toughest mission of all; to leave life in Heaven to come to this earth to save us through His own brutal death on a cross and resurrection back to Heaven. When Jesus said, "It is finished!", IT IS FINISHED. He finished utterly destroying the work of His opponent, the devil.

Finishing is hard work, and it is ultimately what separates winners and losers. Whether it's finishing a follow-through, finishing a drill, finishing a point, finishing a game, finishing a set, finishing a match, finishing a tournament, or finishing a season - FINISHING WELL WINS!

DRILLS

Pair into teams. You can play two on two, four on four, six on six, etc. An error is 1 point. Ground stroke winners are 5 points. Volley winner is 10 points. Overhead and lob winners are 20 points. Play a game to 105 points with the focus on fighting to touch every ball.

PRAYER

Abba Father. Please set in me the resolve and patient endurance to finish well in life and tennis. Let it be in Jesus Name!
