Too Close to the Lines

Can anyone walk on red-hot coals without burning his feet? - Proverbs 6:28

The Word teaches that if we consistently live too close to the edge of sin, whatever the sin may be, we are setting ourselves up for failure. If we hang out in the wrong places often enough, we will eventually lose the wrong-places game, and fall over the line in to whatever happens in those wrong places. If we hang out with the wrong people often enough, we will eventually lose the wrong-people game, and fall over the line in to whatever those wrong people do. If we hang out with wrong habits often enough, we will eventually lose the wrong-habits game, and fall over the line in to whatever those wrong habits do.
However, if we set right boundaries for our lives, stay far enough from the wrong places, people, and habits, we remove the risk of falling over the line in to whatever those places, people and habits had in mind for us.
Tennis is a wonderful place to learn that life lesson. If we consistently aim too close to the lines, we will eventually lose the line game. The large majority of points at all levels are won from the errors of the opponent. Why would we increase the chances of making our own errors?
Bring your targets in and win in life and tennis!
One day after I shared this TFL lesson with our tennis academy kids, a strange man approached me. I had noticed him standing near our group. He thanked me for the lesson and said that the teaching had been for him. He had been hanging around a group of gamblers and needed a nudge to steer clear of the group. He was too close to the lines!
DRILL
Mark new lines with painters tape or with with your racquet on a clay court two feet from the sidelines and baselines. Play a tiebreak with the new, adjusted lines acting as the real lines. Report back with observations.
PRAYER
Abba Father. Please reveal to me anywhere I am living my life too close to the lines You established for my own good. Please give me the faith and resolve to step back from the places of danger. Let it be in Jesus Name!
